Six Essentials for a Super Day of Couch-Bound Sports Watching

The NFL season is only 4 weeks old, the MLB playoffs are still in full swing, and basketball and hockey are gearing up to their season openers. It’s a good time to be a sports fan.

And there’s nothing better than a couch-bound Sunday crammed with sports on the flatscreen. It’s the perfect way to kick back before another work week starts, and the build-up to the next Sunday starts all over again.

But, to make the most of your Sunday sports experience, especially if you’re planning a full day watching NFL Redzone, while flipping over to preseason hoops and hockey, there are some essentials you need to have on hand. Here are six things to make your sports Sunday super:

1. BEER

Even if you’re still nursing a massive hangover from the night before, you can’t get through a big day of couch-bound sports watching without a cold beer in your hand. And the regular stoppages in play may give you the chance to hit the kitchen to fetch a fresh beer, but why bother wasting the energy? Get a handy portable fridge to plug in next to wherever you’re sitting and you can just reach out and grab a cold one. Just tell your buddies to make sure they bring plenty of beer.

2. BETS

Daily fantasy league scandals aside, we all know having a few bucks riding on the game adds to the Sunday excitement. You can bet on all the NFL games with betfair with a huge range of markets to pick from to help to keep you glued to the games. Even if it’s a one-sided game, There are even prop bets, like a bet on who will score the last touchdown, or how many yards the quarterback will pass for, to keep you interested even if the game is a blowout.

3. COMFORTABLE SEATS

If you’re settling down for a marathon 12-hour stint of watching sports on TV, you don’t want to be sitting on wooden or plastic stadium-style seats. If you wanted your ass to turn numb, you’d have bought a ticket and gone to the game. Comfort is the name of the game, so whether it’s a recline-o-lounger, a deep leather couch or even a bean bag chair, make sure it can stand up to the challenge of you sitting on it for long periods at a time. And if it’s got somewhere to put your beer, even better.

4. HUGE TV

The whole point of watching sports on TV at home is so you don’t have to squint to see the action like you would if you’re sat in the top section of a stadium. So don’t even think about trying to watch it on a sorry little 23-inch. The bigger the better, and it should take up vast amounts of wall space. And don’t skimp. Go 4k. Also having a schedule of games on hand will help to guide you through the day with the minimal amount of effort.

5. BUDDIES

Sure there are times when you want to catch the game alone on the couch, but to truly make the most of the day, you need to get the guys over as well. Face it, shouting at the TV alone in a room brings up questions of your sanity, but when you’re all shouting together at the officials, well then it’s all perfectly normal.

6. TAKE-OUT ON SPEED DIAL

Unless you’re firing up the grill out back, spending the afternoon in the kitchen is a huge no-no. But, you’ve still got to eat. Preferably pizza, burgers, fried chicken... anything you can grab with one hand, so you can keep that beer in the other. To save time and effort—and to make sure you don’t draw the short straw, have to head out to pick up food and miss any of the action, make sure you’ve got your favorite take-out place on speed dial.
